How to create a WhatsApp link
- Select the country of the phone number.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to include the leading 0?
You can type the number as you normally dial it, with or without the leading 0. The tool removes the trunk prefix automatically where the country uses one. Italy is an exception, where the 0 is part of the number and is kept.
Can I enter a number that already has a country code?
Yes. Start the number with + or 00, for example +44 20 7946 0958, and it will be used as entered, whichever country is selected.
Does the tool check that the number uses WhatsApp?
No. It checks that the number is correctly formatted, but only WhatsApp knows whether a number is registered. Use “Test link” to check.
Can I create a link without a phone number?
This tool creates links to a specific number. WhatsApp also supports wa.me/?text= links without a number, which let the user choose a contact, but they’re less useful for business contact buttons.
Is my number stored?
No. The link is built in your browser and nothing is saved or sent to our servers.
How WhatsApp click-to-chat links work
WhatsApp supports links in the form https://wa.me/<number>, where the number is written in full international format without “+”, spaces or leading zeros. Adding ?text= followed by an encoded message pre-fills the chat. The person opening the link can still edit the message before sending.
The link opens WhatsApp on phones and WhatsApp Web or the desktop app on computers. The recipient number must be registered on WhatsApp for the chat to open.
